CBS DFW 11 TV is a Dallas-Fort Worth based station owned and operated by CBS Corporation. It is an affiliate of the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) national television network. Additionally, CBS owns and operates independent television stations in other major markets throughout the United States.
Originally established in 1949 as WBAP-TV, CBS DFW 11 TV was among the first commercial television stations in the region. At that time, it was owned and operated by Amon Carter’s Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which had also recently acquired the radio station WBAP-820. The TV station was part of the Carolco television network, which was owned by Amon Carter and Edwin W. Hilburn and was comprised of WBAP-TV in Fort Worth, KFDA-TV in Amarillo, and KTEN-TV in Sherman. All three of these stations were owned and operated by Amon Carter’s Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
In August 1975, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram sold WBAP-TV to CBS and the station was renamed to CBS DFW 11 TV. This marked CBS’ first major affiliate purchase in Texas and at the time, CBS was the smallest of the three major networks.
Since then, CBS DFW 11 TV has become a mainstay in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, offering local programming featuring news, sports and entertainment. Its extensive news coverage has included the highest-rated morning news show in the region, and the only nighttime 10 p.m. newscast in East Texas. CBS’s sports coverage has included a variety of professional, NCAA and Prep sports.
The station also airs many of CBS’s popular national programming, including top-rated shows like NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, Elementary and 2 Broke Girls. Additionally, the station broadcasts a number of syndicated programs, such as Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy! and Family Feud.
The station has also won numerous awards for its news and sports programming, including two Emmy awards for its coverage of the JFK assassination, a Peabody Award for its exposé of drug use in public schools, and an Edward R. Murrow award for its coverage of a deadly tornado in their region.
The station is located in the historic Tower Building in Downtown Fort Worth and its signal is available to most television viewers in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington areas, as well as parts of East and Southeast Texas. When possible, it is also available through various cable and satellite providers outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington area.
In addition to its television programming, CBS DFW 11 TV also provides viewers with an interactive website, www.cbsdfw.com, where they can find news, sports and weather updates, a TV listings guide and much more. The site offers streaming video clips, and is one of the most comprehensive multimedia resources available in the area. CBS DFW 11 TV is also active on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
CBS DFW 11 TV has become an integral part of the Dallas-Fort Worth community and endeavors to provide viewers with the best in local and national programming. The station has served as a trusted television resource for over 60 years, giving viewers the information and entertainment they want in Central and North Texas.
